Five Returns and a Failure

I took a chance sending a 1964 Topps Stand Up to Dick Ellsworth along with $10 cash.  I had seen the notes on SCN that he was returning cards unsigned along with a note that he is no longer signing.  There was no indication as to why he was no longer signing, so I was hoping the money would convince him.  But perhaps his health is preventing him from signing.

I also received five successes:

Jim Barr signed his 1974, 1975 and 1980 Topps as well as the 1978 Topps Giants team card.

Ron Bryant signed his 1974 and 1975 Topps but did not sign the 1973 Topps Giants team card I had enclosed.

Barry Foote signed his 1974, 1975, 1977, 1980 and 1982 Topps cards.  His 1975 Topps shows his Topps All Star Rookie Trophy that I am working on collecting.

Leron Lee signed his 1974 and 1975 Topps, as well as the 1971 Cardinals and 1972 Padres team cards.

Finally, Ron Schueler signed his 1974, 1974 Traded, 1975 and 1976 Topps cards.

Dennis Eckersley Return

I'm not sure why, but I forgot to post about my Dennis Eckersley return yesterday, just like I forgot to post my Dave Goltz return earlier this week.

Anyway, yesterday I received a 1976 Topps and a 2000 Fleer Greats of the Game signed nicely in just 11 days.

I sent him a request just a month earlier and that one came back in 24 days, postmarked from CA instead of the address I sent to in MA.  This time, I sent it to the address of his charitable foundation with a check ($20) instead of his home address and cash.

$10 is a bargain for this Hall of Famer, or any Hall of Famer.  I'm considering sending a couple more cards before this opportunity dries up.

I already had his 1976 rookie card signed over 10 years ago from a mail-in signing where I paid $55 for it as well as a 2008 Goudey.

I'm trying to think of what else to get signed. Maybe his 1985 and 1987 Topps, which are sets I'm just kind of working on.  Or I'll search for something a little more unusual.

Five More Returns

A big day today to cap off a pretty big week.  I expect next week to be similar since I've sent out a ton of requests lately.

I have already sent out 130 requests this year, which is more than I sent out in 2016, 2017 and 2018 combined.

Bill Campbell signed his 1974, 1975, 1977 and 1983 Topps.

Dave Duncan signed the 1971 Athletics team card, as well as his 1974, 1975 and 1977 Topps.

John Felske signed the 1972 and 1973 Brewers team cards as well as his 1973 and 1987 Topps.

Dick Green signed the 1973 World Series card as well as his 1974 and 1975 Topps.

And Tom Walker signed his 1974, 1975 and 1977 Topps cards as well as the 1976 Tigers team card.

Four Returns Today

I received four returns today.  It's actually quite time consuming for me when I get returns.

I scan each card on a flatbed scanner and create/update an html page for that player that shows each card and lists the date sent, date received and any fees I paid.  I then update my Excel spreadsheet that contains all my requests and the details of what was sent, when it was sent, and when it was received.  Then I update sportscollectors.net with the details of the return.  Sometimes I then post my success in a message group on SCN, and then I update this blog.  Once in a while, I might post it on Instagram as well.

Anyway, today I received returns from:

Billy Grabarkewitz signed the 1973 Topps Angels team card as well as his 1974 and 1975 Topps.

Former-Twins catcher George Mitterwald signed his 1974 regular and traded cards, as well as his 1975 and 1977 Topps.

Bob Montgomery signed the 1972 Red Sox team card and his 1974, 1977 and 1980 Topps cards.

Finally, Jim Palmer signed the 1967 Topps card showing his performance in game two of the 1966 World Series.

I forgot to post my return from yesterday.  Dave Goltz signed his 1975, 1980 and 1983 Topps cards as well as the 1980 Twins team card.
