Terry Humphrey TTM Return

Just one return today to close out the week.  Terry Humphrey signed a 1972 Topps signed by Lampard that I bought from Mill Creek last month, his 1977 Topps and a 1976 Tigers team card.  I had also sent a 1978 Angels team card for him to sign but he already signed it for me in April!  I didn't notice until I got this request back.  He didn't call me out on it or anything, just returned it as I sent it: with his signature already on it.

Terry Crowley TTM Return and Some More Purchases

Terry Crowley was kind enough to sign four cards, including the 1971 Orioles team card, for his $5 per card fee.

I bought another Aparicio card from an SCN member, and four cards from Tom Orr via Ebay.

I'm hoping to receive my Joe Mauer items back from Fan HQ in the next few days.

28 Signed Card Purchase

I won 28 auctions from the same seller Sunday evening and lost out on 14.  These cards are from a very large collection of an SCN member, who sold it to another SCN member that has been selling it for the last couple of years.

A handful of them are upgrades to cards already in my collection.  Most of them are cards I did not yet have from deceased players that were good signers while they were still with us.  A very few are high number cards from the 71 and 72 Topps sets.  I think only 2 or 3 are players that are still living but I wanted to make sure I got a nice, blue sharpie signature as opposed to the pens noted in their SCN history.

The prices ranged from $2.39 to $16.00 and averaged about $6.50.  I'm just going to dump the scans rather than comment on each one.

Luis Aparicio Purchase and Denny Riddleberger TTM

I haven't added a card to my 2008 Goudey collection in quite a while.  I recently saw an SCN member selling a signed Luis Aparicio and it dawned on me that I don't have that one yet, so I bought it.  The last signing I've seen listed for him was in 2021, which was held by the same person I bought this card from.  It's not the best, being signed in black and towards the bottom of the card, but it cost a little more than one-third of the signing fee for that last signing, so I'm happy to add it to my set.

I have another collector who is very interested in this set and is interested in buying some of mine when I am ready to sell.  He checks in with me every few months, including just a couple weeks ago.  Every time, I consider it, but just can't bring myself to sell them.  Many of them care one of only a couple cards I have of guys like Willie McCovey, Joe Morgan and Bob Gibson, and I also kind of hate to break up the set.  I've only tried to acquire the retired players and have about 50.  Hopefully when I'm finally ready, my buyer will still be interested.

I sold my Ernie Banks card from this set a few years ago for $200, which was a great deal for me.  And I've regretted it every day since. :-)

I don't collect a lot of modern cards that aren't Twins, and even then, I like the cards that have a definite retro design to them like the Topps Heritage and Allen & Ginter sets, and these Goudeys fall into that category.  Every time I look at them, I like them more.

I have a page on my web site that shows all the cards I have from this set here:

I also received a ttm return from Denny Riddleberger, who signed his 1971 and 1973 Topps for his $5 per card fee.

FanHQ Purchase - Twins World Series Baseballs

Local store and signings promoter FanHQ recently had a sale on signed baseballs.  Coincidently, I had just purchased a couple unsigned baseballs from the 1987 and 1991 World Series.  These signed baseballs were all just $10 more than I paid for the unsigned balls.

I sent the unsigned 1991 ball to a Jack Morris signing and haven't decided what to do with the 87 ball yet.

There were many more baseballs available, but I chose the ones signed by players that aren't that easy to get.

Scott Erickson was sort of involved in a tragic accident in 2020 in which a friend of his is accused of hitting and killing a couple young boys.  The details and I believe the extent of his involvement is still being worked out (I think).  Anyway, I don't think he has done a signing since then and I'm not sure if or when he'll start doing them again, so I decided to buy a 1991 ball signed by him.  He is also one of the two players I still need to sign one of the 1991 Twins World series posters I've been working on.

Dan Gladden isn't that hard to get at a signing.  In fact, I just had him sign a Metrodome baseball last month, but I decided his contributions to the team warranted including him in my purchase.

Rick Aquilera is a relatively rare signer, and the cost of this ball was about $10 less than his previous signing fee and included the ball.

And Chili Davis hasn't done a lot of signings until the last couple of years, so I included him as well.

Today I dropped of a few packages headed to signings, including three Jim Kaat bobbleheads, the Jack Morris ball I mentioned, and a Denny McLain magazine.
