Card Show Buys

My older son and I went to the TCSCC card show at the Valley West Mall in Bloomington today.  Johnny bought  about 10 more 1958 Topps to send out for autographs.  Most were only $1, a couple were $2.

I found a great Sports Illustrated from 1974 commemorating his becoming the home run champion.  I've never even seen this issue before and for $10 I thought it was a bargain.

We also found a nice Justin Morneau signed picture in a frame for $40 which I bought to give to my younger son.  It was signed at the event they held a while ago at Target Field where you could get a free Morneau autograph if you donated a coat to their coat drive. 

Hank Aaron!!

Yesterday I got back a couple of Hank Aaron signed items that a contact from sportscollectors.net took to a Steiner signing for me.

Although it wasn't cheap, it was less than I had expected it would be, and I was able to add Aaron to my 1958 Topps set. This makes 340 different out of 494 issued in the set that I have signed in my collection. I have a page with my '58 collection here.

I also got a ball signed. There is a very small smudge in the "H" of "Hank", but not too bad. Considering the price and the fact that it's Steiner authenticated, I'm really happy to have it in my collection.

This makes three Aaron autographs in my collection now. I purchased a 16x20 of Aaron and posted it last Fall.

Another Return Today

Just one return today. Jim Bolger signed his 1958 and 1959 Topps for me.

I have a couple of magazines ready to go out tomorrow. A 1955 Sport Magazine is off to Duke Snider, and a 1956 Sports Illustrated is headed to Whitey Ford.

I'm also getting a ball and 1958 Topps ready to send to a SCN member who is going to a Hank Aaron signing. The signing isn't until June, but I'll get this stuff to him in plenty of time. I've been waiting to get this 1958 Topps signed by Aaron, but the prices I've seen have been way too high. This signing is more "reasonable", and probably the only chance I"ll have to get it signed.

Metrodome Banners

I finally got some things hung on the walls in the basement. There's still a hole and some stains in the ceiling where the water line broke, but I'll deal with that later.

I hung the three Metrodome banners along one wall. These banners include Michael Cuddyer, Francisco Liriano and Mike Redmond.


I also hung my Hank Aaron photo next to my desk. There's still a lot of work to do including putting all my 1987 Bobbleheads back into their display case, putting the 1965 Twins items back into a display case, and hanging many, many Twins 8x10s on the wall. I also have a lot of old, signed magazines that I need to figure out where to put.

Catching Up on TTM Returns

I seem to be falling behind a bit and posting my through the mail returns the day after I get them. Yesterday I received a return from Jerry Walker, who signed his 1958 and 1961 Topps for my collection.

I did a little more work in the basement, moving an old library table from upstairs down to my office area as one desk wasn't enough room for both of my computers. I think the layout of the basement is solidifying and I am feeling more confident that I can start hanging pictures on the wall without fear that I'll have to move them. The first to go up will be my Hank Aaron signed picture of his 715th homerun.

I also added David's 2009 Twins team ball that he started at TwinsFest to his web site. It's no easy taks scanning in the 8 signatures and trying to link each autograph to a picture of the player signing it. I've added pictures here of Ron Gardenhire's signature and him signing.
