Hall of Famer George Kell Dies at 86
Very sad news today: Hall of Fame third baseman George Kell died. He was 86.
Mr. Kell played for several different teams including the Red Sox, White Sox, Philadelphia A's, Orioles and Tigers. He hit over .300 eight consecutive years, won the batting title in 1949, led A.L. third basemen seven times in fielding and four times in assists.
Mr. Kell was a very willing signer through the mail. He accepted a very small fee to sign, but I don't know if he refused requests without it. I sent to him several times. He signed a ball and several cards for me. In fact, he signed for my son just a couple of weeks ago.
He was a great player, and a great signer for collectors.
