Chris Arnold TTM Return and Juan Marichal Purchase

The ttm returns are pretty slow lately, which is no surprise since I haven't been sending out many lately.  I may be more active with mail-in signings than ttm right now, which isn't good for my budget.

Chris Arnold was kind enough to sign his 1972 and 1973 Topps, as well as the 1972 and 1973 Giants team cards.  The 1972 Topps was previously signed by Jim Barr.

The 1972 Topps will be off to Dave Rader next, and if he signs it, I'll have four completed copies of that card.  Not really on purpose, but if I include this card with a request to just one of them, I feel obligated to complete it.

I also received a 1965 Topps signed by Juan Marichal and slabbed by Beckett.  It has an unusual inscription: "1965 All Star MVP".  You don't see that type of inscription very often, especially for a player with many other accomplishments.  There are probably a million cards out there with his "HOF" inscription.  Anyway, that's what drew me to this card, in addition to the fact that I love the 65 Topps set, and the purple and yellow really stand out.

His 1965 Topps was his first autograph I added to my collection (not the first autograph in my collection, just the first Juan Marichal autograph in my collection).  I participated in a mail-in signing via St. Louis Sports Collectors back in 2009.

I also ordered another, unsigned copy of this card to have him sign again.  I'm coming close to having all of his regular issue Topps cards.  I have a request out to him now with his 1968 Topps, which I think is the last one I need.  I'll have to double check and send along any other cards I need with the 65 when I send it.

I think the most expensive card I ever sent ttm was to Mr. Marichal, when I sent him his 1961 Topps rookie card in August of 2022.  I paid over $90 for the card.  The request before the 61 Topps took four months to get back, so I was not looking forward to several months of anxiety waiting for that card to be returned.  I did send it tracked and insured via PirateShip, so that reduced the anxiety a bit, and it came back in just 14 days.

I'm running out of players to send to from the 50'-70's, as they pass away, or I already have multiples of the cards I'd like to have them sign.  I have started a few sets from the 80's, and have invested quite a bit in the stars and Hall of Famers in the 1982 Topps set, but there's really no card sets that I am interested in from the 1990's.  I believe I'll be skipping that decade and start working a little more on the 2003 and 2007 Topps Heritage sets beyond just the Twins.  I'm going to have Ryan Braun sign his 2007 Heritage card, which is his rookie as well.
