Roger Metzger Return and Cedar Cliff Collectibles Purchases

Today I received on return in the mail.  Roger Metzger signed his 1971, 1972, 1973 and 1978 Topps for me.

My sons and I went to Cedar Cliff Collectibles in Eagan today.  In addition to a few comic books, I bought a Ron Guidry signed baseball (Tristar cert), and Torii Hunter ad A.J Pierzynski signed photos, with COAs from the old Shinders chain.  $28 for all three pieces.

I was a little skeptical of the Hunter signature at first because of the way the "t" in his last name is crossed without the pen lifting up after the "r" in his last name.  But, I have a certified card from 2002 in which he signed his name this way.  The COA lists the signing date of this photo as June 24th, 2002. 

The signature I got from him in person in 2007 is different.

Any other opinions?

Some Returns and a Few Purchases

Today I received three more returns.  Bert Campaneris signed his 1972 Topps.

Joe Keough signed a 1971 and 1972 Topps.

Gus Triandos signed a 1958, 1962 and 1964 Topps.

My sons and I went to Cedar Cliff Collectibles today.  I found a couple of old comics and some BallQube bat display cases that I'll try out.  I currently don't display any of my bats, they're just stacked up in a corner.

We also stopped by The BallPark in Apple Valley and found a bunch of old magazines.  The best one is a 1951 Sport magazine with Jackie Robinson on the cover.

Lots of Driving - Not Much Found

The boys and I did a lot of driving today. We started at Gander Mountain to get our fishing and camping gear in order. That included buying a new tent to replace the one that was shredded in yesterday morning's storm in the back yard. It also included buying two new rods to replace the ones that got broken in transit in the car.

Anyway, after that we hit The Ballpark in Apple Valley. I picked up the lot of 18 1964 Topps I won on eBay and Johnny bought an old book about pitchers.

After that, we went to Taco Bell, of course, and then Cedar Cliff Collectibles. Johnny bought several Amazing Spider-man comics, Pitfall for my old Atari system and a few game used jersey cards. David bought an Ozzie Smith MacFarlane figure and a couple of jersey cards. I didn't buy anything.

After that, we decided we'd try to find one of the "Beyond Shinders" stores. There are two of these stores, that opened after the original Shinders stores closed a few years ago. The old Shinders stores were great. They had tons of baseball cards, bobbleheads, autographs, comic books, magazines, and supplies. We went to the Beyond Shinders store in Maplewood and were very disappointed. There was very little in the store, and what was there, was very overpriced. David did buy a Johan Santana MacFarlane figure, but that was all. We won't be making that store part of our regular route.

I took a few pictures of the game used bats I bought recently. Next weekend is the Harris and Punto signings.

Card Store Finds

No returns in the mail today although I did get some eBay purchases including some more 2008 Goudeys (Phil Niekro, Stan Musial, Lou Brock, etc) and some 8x10s of some Twins including Denard Span, Mike Redmond and Ron Gardenhire.

My sons and I went to the Twins Pro Shop (I know, I was just there yesterday, but they wanted to check it out too). My wife was thankful we didn't buy any more of the Metrodome banners, although we were tempted.

We also went to a baseball card store in Apple Valley called The Ball Park, where we found some nice old magazines for $5 each. Johnny got an old Sport magazine with Duke Snider on the cover which he intends to send off to get signed. I got a few Twins publications with Frank Viola and Kent Hrbek on them. I also got some old Sport magazines, including the one pictured here with Willie Mays on the cover from 1962. It has a Camel Cigarette ad on the back cover with Roger Maris on it. I also got old magazines with Don Drysdale and Bob Lemon on the covers. Good reading material for $5 each.


Finally, we went to Cedar Cliff Collectibles in Eagan, where Johnny got some old comics, David picked up a few Simpsons comics, and I bought the 2008 Goudey base set.

As tonight is New Year's Eve, we will be pretty busy. My wife works, so the boys and I have a dinner planned which will include Killebrew Rootbeer, crackers with cheese and salami, lefse, shrimp cocktail, pickled herring and pizza rolls. We'll have a different kind of hang over then most folks will tomorrow.
