Felipe Alou 1965 Topps

Today I received a card back that I sent to an SCN contact to have signed by Felipe Alou.  I had him sign a 1965 Topps for my set.

This makes 350 signed cards that I have for this set so far.

Jim Bunning 1965 Topps

I had a nice surprise in the mail today.  I haven't gotten many returns lately, mainly because I don't have many requests out.  But today I got back a 1965 Topps signed by Jim Bunning that an SCN contact took to the Fansedge Sports Spectacular show in Chicago last weekend.

I've gotten Bunning a couple of times for free through the mail, but he doesn't seem to be signing through the mail these days.

I've got some free time in the evenings this week so I hope to send out at least a couple of requests.

Finally, a Return

It's been a while since I had anything to write about, but today I finally got something back in the mail. I sent a 1965 Topps in to a Joe Christopher signing that took place in late February.

Mr. Christopher doesn't sign through the mail, so I paid $15 to get this signed for my set.

I also sent in a 1965 Topps Albie Pearson to the same show promoter and hope to get that back in April sometime. I have identified a few 1965 Topps that I can send out through the mail to mediocre to poor signers ttm, and hopefully I'll find some time later this month to get those sent out.

My 1965 Topps Collection

Yesterday I finally got done creating my page of my signed 1965 Topps cards. It's similar to my page of my 1958 set, and helps me keep track of those cards I have and still need. It's terribly tedious to create, but hopefully it's accurate.

You can find it by clicking here.

Some of my favorites include: Carl Yastrzemski, Tony Kubek, Dean Chance, Hank Aaron, Bob Gibson and Ernie Banks.

I have 340 cards signed out of the 598 card set. I'll never complete it, but I'm hoping to get 450.

Luis Aparicio and Don Zimmer

This week I received a few cards that SCN contacts got signed for me.

First, one of my contacts went to the MAB Celebrity show on January 27. He got a couple of Luis Aparicio cards signed for me. I added another 1958 Topps to my set by getting Aparicio on his All Star card. He also signed his 1965 Topps for me. My contact was kind enough to take pictures for me.

Next, another contact went to some awards banquet and got Don Zimmer for me on 1958 and 1965 Topps. I already got Mr. Zimmer on a 1958 Topps through the mail, but there is some speculation that Mr. Zimmer doesn't sign his mail, and perhaps his wife does it for him. Not sure if that's true, but this signature looks quite a bit different from the one I received through the mail.

Zimmer signature in person via SCN contact

This weekend I'll start getting some TwinsFest items posted.

Rollie Sheldon

One return in the mail today. Rollie Sheldon signed his 1965 Topps for me and added his jersey number.

I need to take some time to sort through my collection of 1965 Topps and see which ones are left that are still reasonably obtainable. That will take some time though, which I haven't had much of lately.

Another 1965 Topps - Johnny Orsino

Today I recevied a 1965 Topps signed by Johnny Orsino. A fellow collector on SCN arranged a signing with Mr. Orsino. For $8, I was able to add another card to my 1965 Topps set. I think this makes number 341 that I have gotten signed.

I hope to start sending out a bunch or requests this month. I received the three 1952 Topps that I bought on eBay and those will be the first to go.

A Return Today

I received a return today from Joe Azcue on a 1965 Topps. I included an extra card for him to keep, which he did.

I sent this card out on April 10th. I knew it was a bit old when I saw it in the mail box since I had begun printing my letters and envelopes and this one was handwritten.

There was a nice break between my boys' hockey season and baseball season where I sent out quite a few requests, but haven't sent many out since then. I have a nice 1959 Topps I want to send out to Duke Snider, as well as the 1962 Tribe Hill Trio card to be finished off by Dick Stigman. I'll try to get to those this weekend, but both my boys have baseball tournaments.

A Couple More '65s

Through a contact on Sportscollectors.net, I was able to get a couple more 1965 Topps signed for a reasonable price. This person has a contact that works at one of the big shows, and is able to get cards signed at a discount.

I got Willie McCovey and Red Schoendienst. I was trying to get Juan Marichal as well, but he had to reschedule so I'm hopingI'll get that one signed in February. I also sent in a 1979 Topps card for Ozzie Smith, but he couldn't get that one signed.

I still have a 1965 Topps out to Whitey Ford and I'm a little surprised I haven't gotten it back yet, it's making me a little nervous. I included a check which has not yet been cashed.

I sent out over 20 letters this week so I should start seeing quite a few returns towards the end of next week.
