Whitey Ford and a Few Other Returns

Last fall I sent a 1954 Topps to Whitey Ford to sign.  He did, but he signed it in ballpoint.  Twice.  An odd return that I've wanted to upgrade for a while.  Recently I did.  I sent him another card and a $20 check and got back a very nicely signed card in blue sharpie, and he even added his jersey number.  It looks great.

Coincidentally, I also bought a 1959 Topps signed by Whitey Ford from a fellow member of sportscollectors.net.  I also bought one signed by Enos Slaughter.  Mr. Slaughter was a very good signer through the mail until he passed away in 2002, about a year before I started collecting.

My younger son added to his Mets collection yesterday.  Bill Wakefield signed his 1965 Topps for him.

Ernie Banks - 2008 Goudey

Today I received a 2008 Goudey signed by Ernie Banks from a signing at Jim and Steve's. It was delayed a few weeks but came back signed nicely. I also got a ball signed for a friend and it looks great.

I have a 2008 Goudey out to a Mike Schmidt signing and am planning a few more including Eddie Murray, Fred Lynn and Willie McCovey. This set is getting expensive.

I also received another 1954 Topps Whitey Ford today that I bought on eBay. It's an SGC graded card. It's the perfect condition for an autograph: no creases, decent centering, reasonable corners, but still graded as VG/EX, so it was affordable at $40. Do a search on eBay and see if you can find another in this condition. It's not easy. The last one I sent to Mr. Ford came back signed twice. I've decided to send another. I'll also send Yogi Berra his 1954 Topps next week.

Finally Some Returns

My odd luck continues with Whitey Ford. While he signed and returned my 1954 Topps quickly, he signed it twice. Odd. This comes after he signed the penny sleeve on the 1965 Topps I sent a while ago. Not sure if I'll try another or just live with this one.

I also got a 1956 Topps signed by Gus Zernial. Mr. Zernial is a great signer through the mail and he has a lot of cards from the 50's. I have cards of his signed from 1951-1956, and 1958-1959. I have almost no 1957 Topps signed, just because I really don't like the design of the set.

Finally, I got back my 1963 Twins program signed by Camilo Pascual. He used the pen I sent and it looks really good. I hope to get Killebrew to sign it at TwinsFest this January.
